Boycott GMO Companies

Last week I wrote a post about the upcoming voting for Proposition 37 in California to label GMO’s or The Right to Know Campaign. Since then, a lot more information has come out about the big companies who are funding the campaign to keep us in the dark about what we are eating. Massive food companies and leaders of the GMO world have already donated 25,000,000.00 to a campaign called No. On Prop 37.
What do you need 25 million dollars for? A little more food propaganda advertising is probably in order.
They are spending thousands and in some cases millions of dollars to saturate the airwaves, create TV commercials, advertisements, and send out mailers trying to confuse California citizens and convincing them to vote against labeling GMOs. (Source)
So let’s dissect this a little more and look at the companies who are against labeling GMO’s.
#1 You Guessed It – Monsanto. Donating $4,208,000.00 to the cause.
Of course Monsanto is to be expected, but you may be a little surprised by a few of the other companies. Many of the natural food leaders have parent companies that support and heavily use GMO’s. Take for example Kellogs who has donated over 500,000.00 and is the parent company of natural food leaders Kashi, Morningstar Farms, Bear Naked, and Wholesome and Hearty.
So I am boycotting the companies who have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the No. to Prop 37 campaign: (partial list below)
Pepsi Sodas, Tropicana, Quaker Oaks, Frito Lays, Gatorade, Near East, Natural Cheetos, Natural Tostitos, Natural Lays, Izzie Sparkling Juice, Naked Juice, SoBe Juice, Starbucks Coffee Drinks, Aquafina, Lipton Iced Tea (Click here for full list of products)
Nestle Tollhouse, Carnation Instant, Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, CoffeeMate, Edy’s Ice cream, Haagen-Dazs, Buitoni Pasta, California Pizza Kitchen, DiGornio, Stouffer’s, Lean Cuisine, (Click here for a full list of products)
All Coke sodas, Dasani, Full Throttle, Smart Water, Hi-C, Minute Maid, Odwalla Juice, Powerade, Simply Orange Juice (Click here for a full list of products)
Betty Crocker, GM Cereals, Pillsbury, Bisquick, Cascadian Farm Organics,Old El Paso, Hamburger Helper, LaraBar, Muir Glen Organics, Totino’s, Nature Valley, Green Giant, Progresso Soup, Yoplait Yogurt (Click here for a full list of products)
Banquet Soups, Slim Jims, Egg Beaters, Reddi-Whip, Hebrew National Hot Dogs, Chef Boyardee, Wesson Vegetable Oil, Hunt’s Tomatoes, Marie Calendars, Orville Redenbacher (Click here for a full list of products)
Other Companies/Brands: Mars, McCormick, Ocean Spray, Dole, Hersey’s, Smuckers, Sara Lee, Hormel, Silk,Horizon Organic, Campbells.
My stand is to boycott these companies and take a stand for the transparency of what is in our food. My hope is that you all can be informed and be conscious consumers. If you are interested in all of the companies that have donated to No to Prop. 37 you can check out this website that keeps a running total daily.

And on the flip side, I would encourage your readers to choose brands from companies that are committed to being non-GMO. A good listing of these brands are listed on the non-GMO project website: http://www.nongmoproject.org
I am a dairy farmer in northeast Iowa. What are these companies hiding. If what is in their product can’t be told; then we should not be eating it. We need to start making more of our food from scratch-healthier kids and adults and maiybe less obesity. We are all so busy doing something things-I say THINGS! Usallynot that important. We sell our milk with no antiodies and growth hormones in it.
It is interesting to note that there is also a long list of individual contributors and organic farmers, organic food companies. I don’t understand why GM foods need to be labeled. I have looked at lots of data and it all indicates no differences, no effects from feeding studies. I am willing to wager anyone that if you take a box of regular corn flakes and one labeled non gmo, and take them to a lab, for analys, the results will be the same. They are both corn flakes. What am I missing?
