Say NO to GMO
There has never been a more crucial time to support the labeling of GMO’s. Right now California is in the process of trying to get GMO’s labeled in the State and is being heavily opposed by Big Companies. This November, the vote will be held on the proposition that would require labels for agricultural products produced with GMO’s along with all processed foods with more than 0.5% GMO content. By passing this in California, it sets the stage for other states to follow suit.
Prince Charles has called them the “biggest environmental disaster of all time,” while agriculture industrialists like Monsanto swear they’re safe for human consumption and a boon for the environment. (source)
America is among the list of countries that has not banned GMO’s and has not required any labeling of GMO’s. However, many other countries has very strict policies about them.
Countries that have Banned GMO’s or Require Labeling:
- South Australia- banned
- Japan – banned
- New Zealand – banned
- Ireland -banned
- Germany – banned
- Austria -banned
- Greece -banned
- Hungary -banned
- Bulgaria -banned
- Luxembourg – banned
- France -banned
- Switzerland -banned
- India – banned
- Thailand – banned
- The Entire European Union – requires GMO labeling
One of the biggest companies who has something to loose in this fight is PepsiCo. PepsiCo is America’s largest food company contributing not only GMO laden soda, but many other processed food items including items such as Tropicana, Quaker Oats, Doritos, Lipton, Naked Juice and many more. They are heavily funding the No to Prop 37 Campaign which claims the proposition to label GMO’s will hurt farmers and cost taxpayers more money.

However, according to JustLabelIt.org 92% of Americans support the labeling of GMO’s. What it comes down to is that we should have the right to know what is in our food and be able to make an informed decision when purchasing food. Whether that be allergens, gluten, or GMO’s – we should know exactly what is in our food.
Companies like PepsiCo are panicking because they know that when people do actually know what is in their food many will put their products back on the shelf. Otherwise, transparency wouldn’t be an issue. And claiming that many of their products are “All-Natural” despite the fact that those same products contain GMO’s would also be a problem. Sure call it All-Natural if you want, but label the GMO’s.
Spread the word to help support California in the labeling of GMO’s and take action by telling the FDA to label GMO’s now.

Bravo to you for this post! This is such an important topic and one that many are afraid to broach (at least perhaps in the city in which I live). The more we know, the more we can take a stand. With great blogs such as yours, more of us will be informed and be able to take action.
Thanks so much Elizabeth. We have to be informed.
