Top 3 Essential Oils for Allergies

It’s that time of year again when the beautiful buds are blooming, the birds are chirping and you are cursing, sneezing and itching. Sounds idyllic – NOT. Seasonal allergies are miserable! Over 60 million people are affected by allergic rhinitis, also known as seasonal allergies and that number keeps growing every year. I was a long time user of Benadryl, Claritin and whatever else I could swallow for allergies. That was until I decided to make the change to a more natural approach, and long term solution.

Top 3 Essential Oils for Allergies:

Lavender – Lemon – Peppermint

Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint essential oils can create a powerful all-natural antihistamine. These three oils together can cool down body inflammation resulting from the body’s allergic response. And I can attest, they are miracle workers. Once you combine those 3 oils, they begin to work their magic and you have a wonderful substitution to those synthetic drugs that your body doesn’t like to process.

3 Ways to Use:

Add 3 drops each to shot glass of juice or water, swish 10-20 seconds in the mouth and swallow.*

Add 3 drops each to an empty veggie capsule (available at health food store or doTERRA)*

Add 1 drop each to a spoonful of local honey for children. For adults you can do 2-3 drops each.*

*Only take internally if your oils are CPTG doTERRA Oils. If your oils are not doTERRA, rub on the bottoms of your feet and cover with a sock.

How to Buy:

I highly recommend getting the Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils from doTERRA. Just remember a bottle only has to have 10% of the actual oil in it to be considered 100% pure. Yikes! doTERRA oils are the only ones that are 3rd party tested for purity and potency (read my blog on this here), and can be taken internally.

Start with the Introductory Kit that has the Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint in it. Retail is $26.67 and if you buy wholesale it is $20.00. Please visit my doTERRA site for this kit. If you want to buy wholesale please comment on here, or message me directly as I have to personally set that up for you. Then whatever you buy in the future is 25% off. Plus find out 101 Uses for these 3 oils here.

Testimonials:

I’ve had several people in my home who are even allergic to cats that this combination in a capsule has worked well for. 5 drops each, Lemon, Lavender & Peppermint = results like a Sudafed. – Lisa Jones

If you can stand the taste, 2-3 drops of peppermint, lavender, and lemon in an oz or 2 of water, swish around in your mouth, and swallow. I used to take Claritin D everyday, and now I don’t have to. It has worked wonders for seasonal allergies and cat allergies for me! – Rachel Snyder

My mom has bad allergies. She says she uses 1 drop of peppermint oil tapped on her Thymus (gland right above the hollow in your throat) daily to help prevent them. When she has an additional need she takes the Lemon, Lavendar, and Peppermint in a capsule. and if needed rubs a little lavendar on her forehead and on her cheeks under her eyes. -Jaime Dye

I love the LLP combo. I also rub lavender around my eyes to relieve the itching. Just use about 1 drop to rub under eyes on eye bone and around the sides. Works wonders, and if I do both in the morning I am set for the day. – Jenni French

I can’t tell you how amazing this natural remedy is for allergies. Supporting your body with natural medicine vs synthetic medicine not only can be very effective, but can reduce all those unwanted side effects. It’s a win-win and will leave you feeling amazing. I can now breathe and have gotten rid of those headaches, sneezing and itchy eyes. I’m looking forward to long days celebrating Spring in the great outdoors!

I am having a terrible time with allergies here in Washington, DC. Over the counter medicines aren’t working. I would love to try this combination. However, I cannot take any medication with D in it including pseudofed. Is this combination still right for me? If so, I would love to buy it wholesale.

    Thank you,
    Ellen

    • Mary Crimmins May 30, 2014 at 5:12 pm #

Hi Ellen! These oils are pure essential oils with no additives. When you you buy lavender you are just getting pure, all natural lavender oil. So great right?! They will not effect over the counter medication. However, I am not a physician or doctor, so I’d recommend consulting one if you’re not sure.

Are these oils distilled? I’m currently a YL user and was told that DT oils are distilled several times which decreases their strength, where YL oils are not distilled. The reason I ask is that I am having troubles getting several of the YL oils as many are on back order due to their popularity, so I am looking to possibly switch companies, but don’t want to sacrifice the potency of the oils simply for convenience. Thank you for your help!

  11. Bimali July 9, 2014 at 10:48 pm #

    Hi Mary
I ordered the Intro kit (Lavendar, lemon and peppermint) for my 11yr old son who has allergies. My question is you recommend a blend of all three oils to be taken internally but only the lemon and the peppermint bottles say : for dietary use. The lavender says : topical use only.

    • Mary Crimmins July 11, 2014 at 6:45 pm #

Hey Bimali! Hmm I’m a little confused by this. My bottle at home says “for aromatic, topical, or dietary use.” It needs to have the supplements facts guide on the bottle. My bottle at home has this. Let me know what you find.

      • Bimali July 12, 2014 at 2:21 am #

Hi Mary, thanks for your reply. Yes my lavender bottle says very clearly that its for topical use. I have with me the purple and white doTERRA Intro kit – Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint. I would love to start using these asap to reduce the over the counter antihistamine given to my son but not sure how to go ahead. I was sent an email by Carissa Shapiro with the wellness form and a time that you will be calling me but not sure where to do from here as my lavender bottle says topical. Even the advice on the inside of the flap gives advice for all topical uses for the lavender.

Our entire family has allergies but I get sick the most from weather changes I am Breastfeeding and heard peppermint oil reduces your supply. What else could you use instead of peppermint?

    • Mary Crimmins July 29, 2014 at 6:07 pm #

Hey Samantha! I’d recommend just using the lemon and lavender. Using the 2 will still help a lot!

  17. Shelly August 4, 2014 at 11:03 pm #

  19. Teresa August 18, 2014 at 10:32 am #

Why do you say not to rub doTerra oils on your feet? What is the difference between those and others?

    • Mary Crimmins August 25, 2014 at 9:31 pm #

Thanks for asking! I believe what I meant was that with do terra oils you can take them internally (as well as topically and aromatically). But with other oils from companies that don’t have as high standards I do not recommend ingesting them. So it’s best to stick with the topical application, such as on the bottoms of your feet :)

  20. Sharon Stoute August 22, 2014 at 12:32 pm #

I would love to be set up to purchase these oils. I live in south Louisiana and have allergies to everything down here. We recently rescued a dog and she is killing me with allergies. I don’t want to keep taking over the counter meds.

Hi Mary – I’m interested in the lavender, lemon, and peppermint combination for seasonal allergies. I also see that doTERRA has an oil blend called Breathe. My 8 year old son has terrible hay fever and I was wondering which you would recommend for him? Using the three oils or the blend? Either way, I’m interested in buying wholesale from you. Thanks.

Hey Elizabeth I will send you information about the oils via email!

  24. Flora September 2, 2014 at 11:55 am #

Is it safe to use on a 6lb puppy

    • Mary Crimmins September 3, 2014 at 4:13 pm #

I would follow the same protocol as with babies-dilute all the oils. You won’t need much at all for a puppy that size. Just half or 1 drop of each oil diluted with coconut oil would be safe.

  25. Cindy Schrader September 4, 2014 at 11:45 pm #

I have been using the allergy capsules Triease from Doterra. While at a health food store the clerk told me essential oils are not safe to ingest because it can lead to kidney problems. How can I be sure it is safe to take these capsules?

I have some oils that I bought a few years ago but haven’t used them because I was too busy to figure them out. I am trying to invest some time now because I think it could really help me with my allergies. I loved your article on using the 3 oils for allergies. My question is “how many times per day can I put 3 drops of each in a capsule to take.” I did it about noon, and it seemed to help, and I’m about to do it again before bedtime. Hope that isn’t too often. Thanks for your help. I need to find someone who is very knowledgeable with the oils for here forward. Sounds like it might be you. :) . I have the Physicians family pak from Doterra.

    • Mary Crimmins October 8, 2014 at 6:43 pm #

Hey Gwen so sorry to hear about your allergies. I know how miserable that is. It depends on how badly you are suffering from allergies. If you took them and felt like they helped that’s a great sign! I can’t really recommend how many times you should take the capsule but I know I find it helpful to take it between 1-3 times a day depending how bad I’m feeling during the season.
      Hope you feel better soon!

  32. Julie Whitacre October 10, 2014 at 2:06 am #

Hi Mary – such a great post – thanks! I have a 3-year old daughter with multiple medical issues, and allergies really make life difficult for her at times. Do you think 2-3 drops of each in coconut oil (rubbed onto her feet at night) would be an adequate dosage? (Also, would love some info on purchasing wholesale as well!)

    • Mary Crimmins October 14, 2014 at 5:35 pm #

Thanks for your comment Julie! 1 drop of each is more appropriate for a child so try that out first! Little ones don’t need as much ;) I’ll send you some info about oils for kids as well as that wholesale info! Thanks!

    • Mary Crimmins October 15, 2014 at 5:14 pm #

Julie, I think the email you typed in might have had a typo. I sent the email yesterday but got a fail to send message. Do you have another email I can send the information to?

  34. jeweli October 16, 2014 at 6:33 am #

I had never suffered from any kind of allergy’s before the age of 52 but now apparently I became allergic to everything ….
Pollen, Ragweed, Cat’s, Dog’s, Dust, Dander etc etc…
So I have decided to try these 3 essential oils but I have another question!
The worst allergic reaction I have had so far was to the “Toxic Smoke” from a nearby California Wildfire…
I didn’t realise I was allergic to the “Wildfire Smoke” until a few day’s later because I was still alive! The allergic reaction I experienced was so severe I thought I had contacted some kind of Bird/Swine Flu or something even worse but no it was nothing like that I am just deathly allergic to Wildfire Smoke………
Do you think that maybe these 3 Oils could help my very severe allergic reaction to Wildfire Smoke in the future………..
Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated…..

Is it safe ti ingest Lavender?

    • Mary Crimmins December 2, 2014 at 4:44 pm #

Jen that’s a great question! Not all oils are created equally so it is not safe to ingest most lavender oils on the market. They contain synthetic ingredients and can be really harmful.

The oils I mention in this post are thoughtfully sourced and tested for their quality. They contain the CPTG-Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade-label and have a nutrition facts label on the side of the bottle meaning that it is safe for consumption.

Please read more about it on my post here: http://marycrimmins.com/not-all-essential-oils-are-created-equal/

And let me know if you’d like me to email you with information on how you can order some. I can give you great discounts :)

Hi-I seem to be allergic to dander if one of my dogs…I never have an issue with the older one, but I notice that my skin and my eyes get very itchy after petting her. I would love to not need to rely on Benadryl. I do have the lemon, peppermint and lavender do terra oils as well as a diffuser. How can I get the fastest relief?
