Top 3 Essential Oils for Allergies

It’s that time of year again when the beautiful buds are blooming, the birds are chirping and you are cursing, sneezing and itching. Sounds idyllic – NOT. Seasonal allergies are miserable! Over 60 million people are affected by allergic rhinitis, also known as seasonal allergies and that number keeps growing every year. I was a long time user of Benadryl, Claritin and whatever else I could swallow for allergies. That was until I decided to make the change to a more natural approach, and long term solution.

Top 3 Essential Oils for Allergies:

Lavender – Lemon – Peppermint

Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint essential oils can create a powerful all-natural antihistamine. These three oils together can cool down body inflammation resulting from the body’s allergic response. And I can attest, they are miracle workers. Once you combine those 3 oils, they begin to work their magic and you have a wonderful substitution to those synthetic drugs that your body doesn’t like to process.

3 Ways to Use:

Add 3 drops each to shot glass of juice or water, swish 10-20 seconds in the mouth and swallow.*

Add 3 drops each to an empty veggie capsule (available at health food store or doTERRA)*

Add 1 drop each to a spoonful of local honey for children. For adults you can do 2-3 drops each.*

*Only take internally if your oils are CPTG doTERRA Oils. If your oils are not doTERRA, rub on the bottoms of your feet and cover with a sock.

How to Buy:

I highly recommend getting the Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils from doTERRA. Just remember a bottle only has to have 10% of the actual oil in it to be considered 100% pure. Yikes! doTERRA oils are the only ones that are 3rd party tested for purity and potency (read my blog on this here), and can be taken internally.

Start with the Introductory Kit that has the Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint in it. Retail is $26.67 and if you buy wholesale it is $20.00. Please visit my doTERRA site for this kit. If you want to buy wholesale please comment on here, or message me directly as I have to personally set that up for you. Then whatever you buy in the future is 25% off. Plus find out 101 Uses for these 3 oils here.

I’ve had several people in my home who are even allergic to cats that this combination in a capsule has worked well for. 5 drops each, Lemon, Lavender & Peppermint = results like a Sudafed. – Lisa Jones

If you can stand the taste, 2-3 drops of peppermint, lavender, and lemon in an oz or 2 of water, swish around in your mouth, and swallow. I used to take Claritin D everyday, and now I don’t have to. It has worked wonders for seasonal allergies and cat allergies for me! – Rachel Snyder

My mom has bad allergies. She says she uses 1 drop of peppermint oil tapped on her Thymus (gland right above the hollow in your throat) daily to help prevent them. When she has an additional need she takes the Lemon, Lavendar, and Peppermint in a capsule. and if needed rubs a little lavendar on her forehead and on her cheeks under her eyes. -Jaime Dye

I love the LLP combo. I also rub lavender around my eyes to relieve the itching. Just use about 1 drop to rub under eyes on eye bone and around the sides. Works wonders, and if I do both in the morning I am set for the day. – Jenni French

I can’t tell you how amazing this natural remedy is for allergies. Supporting your body with natural medicine vs synthetic medicine not only can be very effective, but can reduce all those unwanted side effects. It’s a win-win and will leave you feeling amazing. I can now breathe and have gotten rid of those headaches, sneezing and itchy eyes. I’m looking forward to long days celebrating Spring in the great outdoors!

My husband and I have just recently within the last 4 months gone strictly clean eating and I suffer from sever seasonal allergies, and I have to take claritin, and sudafed to just manage my terrible allergies and I want to stop putting these horrible chemicals in my body, they make it nearly impossible for me to wear my contacts because they are so drying to my eyes and I’ve noticed that it cause drying of so many other things for me. I would love to be able to purchase items wholesale as I believe I will be doing so much more than just allergy relief with essential oils in the future. Thank you so much for any and all help you can provide. I’m just not getting into the essential oils, and am very curious as to what all else they can help with.

    Hi Mary,

I am currently breastfeeding my 5 month old baby. My spring allergies hit me come the month of May. I used to take Zyrtec but have read that taking allergy medicine can reduce your milk supply…which I cannot afford to have happen. I was wondering if you knew if taking this routine of oils was 1. safe to take while breastfeeding and 2. if they had any affect on milk supply. Although I cannot wait for spring to be here after this winter, I am dreading dealing with my allergies with no relief.

    • Mary Crimmins April 1, 2014 at 5:01 pm #

Thanks for your questions Kate! I’m so glad you asked because you actually do not want to take the allergy trio of lavender, lemon, and peppermint. Peppermint will stop up your milk supply. To combat allergies you can still take lavender and lemon and it is totally safe. The two together may still help even without peppermint. You also want to test your intake of Oregano if you plan to use it. Everyone’s body is different but I have heard some women say oregano made their milk taste weird. I’ll attach this link on breastfeeding and oils:

      • Kate Miranda April 5, 2014 at 6:53 pm #

Mary, thank you so much! i am very glad I asked! And, thank you for the link…very helpful.

  4. Crys March 31, 2014 at 5:56 pm #

I am going to undergo allergy testing in a few weeks. As a result I can take no antihistamines for 7 days…I’m anticipating it to be a very long miserable week. Do these oils contain antihistamines? I wondered if I could take them instead of benadryl/zyrtec…

    • Mary Crimmins April 1, 2014 at 6:08 pm #

Hi and thanks for your questions. They do not contain antihistamines and would be very helpful to use to combat your allergies.

  5. Sarah G April 1, 2014 at 2:54 pm #

Oh, I am a new allergy sufferer! (is that a word?) I’ve never had allergies until this last year, and know I am sitting at my desk with a cloudy head and a box of Kleenex Cool Touch tissues by my side. I would LOVE to try something more natural than popping allergy medicine. Thanks for your input! I’ve never tried essential oils on my own, but I would like to start using them!

    • Mary Crimmins April 3, 2014 at 11:43 pm #

  21. Martha April 15, 2014 at 4:06 pm #

I am a LONGTIME allergy sufferer. I’ve had nasal surgeries, and am currently on 3 types of medication, and I am 5 months pregnant. I’ve gotten my 5th cold in 5 months, and am just at my wit’s end. Can I take the combination pack while pregnant? I need relief. Please and thank you!!!

  23. Carla McLaughlin April 16, 2014 at 8:01 pm #

I use doTERRA E.O. on my whole family and love them! I have been looking for a combo to use to help my 3 month old baby with allergies. Usually when I use the oils on him I dilute about 20 drops in a TB of organic coconut or olive oil and use a roller to put it on him. Would 7 drops of each in aTB of oil rubbed on the bottom of his feet be your suggestion? I would
Love to hear your input and know if you have ever used this combo on babies before. Thank you!

    • Mary Crimmins April 17, 2014 at 6:13 pm #

Hi Carla, so glad your whole family is loving the oils! It sounds like you’re taking great care of them. If you’re using a roller, 7 drops of each sounds good. If you’re just mixing everything in your hand, you could probably just use one drop of each and still dilute them since he’s still so little. I haven’t used them on babies before but this is what I’ve heard from friends who have small children.

  24. Sunnye April 17, 2014 at 4:06 pm #

    • Mary Crimmins April 17, 2014 at 6:13 pm #

Thanks for your comment. I’ll email you with more information on how to get the kit for less!

  28. Bree Madrid April 19, 2014 at 6:41 am #

I have been taking the trio in a shot glass with water, as well as in the pill form, I also rub them on the back of my neck and put “breathe” and “eucalyptus” in my cool air humidifier. I am still severely struggling with allergies daily. Emphasis on severe. I’m at my wits end and unfortunately we no longer have insurance due to my husband’s job loss so a doc visit is out of the question. Any ideas on anything else I can try or something I am doing wrong?? Thanks so much!

    • Mary Crimmins April 21, 2014 at 3:33 pm #

Hi Bree, I’m so sorry your allergies are so bad! That really is the worst sine they never seem to let up :( So I have a couple of ideas you could try. I’d recommend adding Melaleuca to the trio. I’d also try putting them on your feet. You could try this in addition to your back and internally or just switch to your feet. It all depends on what you want to do. But I’d recommend you look into foot reflexology (just google it). It’s fascinating and at times when I was in a position like you are, I’d switch to foot application and it made a huge difference.
Lastly, up your intake. I don’t know how often your’e doing it now but try 2-4 times a day. Really hope that helps!!!

  29. Kerrie April 21, 2014 at 3:26 am #

Hi Mary, I have cat allergies and just bought a cat! Stupid I know. I already have these oils at home but wondering for how long do I need to take it before the results can be felt. And also how many doses per day? I have taken 3 drops f each in orange juice. Eating fir my veggie caps to arrive.

    • Mary Crimmins April 21, 2014 at 3:37 pm #

Hey Kerrie, I don’t think I could resist pets even if I was allergic too ;) Everyone is different in regards to how often they need to take essential oils to treat a specific issue. If you’re taking one dose a day right now, slowly build up to two and then maybe 3 doses per day if your allergies are severe. You can also take them if you are just starting to randomly feel allergic. I think you’ll really like the veggie caps too. Personally, I hate the taste of lavender and love using the veggie caps. You should also check out the new Tri-Ease soft gels that were just released!! It’s the allergy trio already mixed.

  30. Tina April 21, 2014 at 3:53 pm #

I’m interested in getting the starter kit too! My daughters allergies started up last year and we did claritin, I do not like pumping her with meds that treat symptoms but not the source. This year we tried raw local honey which worked for a bit but she’s miserable now. Please email me. Thanks!

    • Mary Crimmins April 22, 2014 at 3:22 pm #

Hi Tina, I totally understand wanting to give your daughter a natural alternative to treat her allergies! I’d love to give you more information on ordering the essential oils. Sending you an email now!

  31. Jc W. April 21, 2014 at 11:41 pm #

Hi I was wondering if there are any side effects to the three oils, and I am suffering badly from allergies and would love to order this kit,I just don’t see it on the website. TY!

    • Mary Crimmins April 22, 2014 at 3:11 pm #

Hi Jc thanks so much for asking. Since the essential oils are completely all natural and thoroughly tested you technically shouldn’t have any side effects. The reason why I saw that is because the only reason you could react negatively to them is if you already had an allergy to that type of plant. If you are allergic to lavender or peppermint, etc. then I would highly suggest NOT using that oil. If you’re not allergic, then you’re good to go! I’ll send you an email with more information :)

  32. Allison bridges April 22, 2014 at 4:13 am #

I didn’t ever get an email. I am interested in purchasing wholesale and getting the starter kit for my son for his allergies. He’s also having a horrible time at school this year and I was wondering to your thoughts on oils that may be good for ADHD. OR, a child this is defiant. Hyper. Spiteful. Absentminded.

    Thank you!

    • Mary Crimmins April 22, 2014 at 4:27 am #

      Hi Allison,

Thanks so much for reaching out to me. I can tell that you are an amazing mother already. The fact that you are searching for something to help your son is amazing. What a gift to him ;)

I would love to help you with finding some oils for his ADHD and allergies. There are several things that would be really beneficial. I have worked with several parents on helping them find solutions to support their children with similar issues.

Do you have some time to chat on the phone about all of these options? I can write them in an email and explain how to order wholesale, however sometimes I feel that it is best to chat on the phone so I can get the full picture of what you are trying to accomplish through the oils. I do 30 minute free consultations to help people find the best regime for themselves and their children. Let me know if you would be interested in that, and I’d be happy to set a time up for us to chat.

Otherwise, just let me know if you would like info via email. Thanks so much Allison, I really look forward to chatting with you and finding some really effective alternative options for your son.

I desperately need help for allergies and interested in oils for other medical use.

    • Mary Crimmins April 23, 2014 at 10:29 pm #

      Hey Julia,

Thanks so much for reaching out. I love that you are looking into a more natural solution for your allergies and more. I have found so much success in healing from Endometriosis and severe anxiety and depression. You can read more of my story here:

You mentioned that you wanted to use the oils for other medical use. What do you want to know first?

You might want to watch my webinar that I did about the basics of the essential oils and how to use them. The special offer at the end has expired, but there are always incentives that I offer when you sign up for a wholesale account with me to get the discount of 25% off.

Let me know how I can help you and what questions you have. I can help steer you to the best oils or oil kit sampler to start with, and/or get you the wholesale membership set up. You may want to start with something like the Family Physicians Kit or Home Essentials Kit because it will include the Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint for the allergies – plus the other most common oils that people use for medicinal use.
